The 2020 Men’s Roller Derby World Cup is taking place in St. Louis July 9th to July 12th. Roller Derby is not yet a recognized sport by the Canadian government, and as such the team does not receive any government funding for training or travel to the World Cup. The athletes are self-funded and rely on fundraising and sponsors to help cover the costs associated with uniforms and gear, practice space, travelling to practices across Canada and to make the trip the World Cup.
The Men’s Roller Derby World Cup is a major roller derby event. The event sells approximately 600 tickets to spectators and has over 27,000 viewers watching the online stream. The stream viewership is mostly from the United States of America, Canada, and the United Kingdom. More information on the World Cup can be found on their website, http://mrdwc.com.
